REJUVENATION OF THE EYES - BLEPHAROPLASTY

Eyes and the surrounding “periorbital” areas are one of the focal points of the face. We commonly communicate while observing one another’s eyes as a sign of attention. With aging changes, eyelid skins become more lax. Especially the upper eyelids begin to sag and make the eyes feel heavy. Concurrently, constant movement around the eyes will create lasting creases and wrinkles around the eyes in the forms of “frown lines” or “the crow’s feet”. Lower eyelid skins may appear crepey and lax. The muscle around the eyes will begin to lose its tone, allowing the fat pad around the eyes to protrude in the form of a “bag under the eyes”. Specific procedures and techniques have been evolved over generations of plastic and oculoplastic surgeons to improve these aging changes of periorbita.

WHAT IS UPPER BLEPHAROPLASTY?

Upper blepharoplasty helps restore youthful appearing upper eyelids. This is achieved by removing redundant upper eyelid skin through incision along the natural crease line. In some patients, there is also fullness in the upper inner corner of the eyelids caused by protruding orbital fat pad which will be removed at the same time.

WHAT IS LOWER BLEPHAROPLASTY?

Lower blepharoplasty helps improve the contour of the lower eyes, particularly the bag under the eyes. In some patients, the hollow tear trough will be corrected at the same time. The bag under the eyes is caused by protruding orbital fat pad, which there are three compartments. Aging changes will influence how the soft tissue, ligament, and skin interact, resulting in trough, valley, and mounds under the eyes. During lower blepharoplasty, an incision is created under the surface of the retracted lower eyelid. This means typical lower blepharoplasty will result in no visible external incision. In some patients with significant “tear trough” hollow, Dr. Kim will extend release of tight ligaments followed by repositioning of the orbital fat to hollow area. Most often, Dr. Kim combines lower blepharoplasty with fractionated CO2 laser resurfacing to achieve tightening of skin laxity. For some patients with significant lower eyelid laxity, he may recommend further skin tightening through removal of excess lower eyelid skin. This will require additional incision just under the lash line “subciliary incision”.

RECOVERY FROM BLEPHAROPLASTY

Blepharoplasty typically takes under one hour. Upper blepharoplasty alone may take about 30 minutes. The procedure may be performed under local anesthesia alone in some patients, although most patients elect to have twilight sedation. Sutures are typically removed at the one week visit. It is unusual for patients to report pain during recovery. It is possible to resume normal routine activity within a few days, although strenuous exercise should be avoided for two weeks.

My only regret was that I didn't do it sooner - I had a natural facelift and blepharoplasty about 3 months ago. My only regret was that I didn't do it sooner. I just wanted to look as young as I feel. Mission accomplished! The whole experience was totally positive. Dr. Kim is a wonderful surgeon and a very lovely person. I felt total confidence in his care. His staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful.

Resting Pleasant Face - After turning 50, I felt like the relaxed expressions on my face made me look mad or sad. I didn't feel like that on the inside. I wanted my face to match the happiness I actually felt. Dr. Kim gave me a mini-lift, cheek implants and upper blepharoplasty. I'm very pleased with the results. My midface and lower face have been smoothed and lifted, yet very natural. I have had many friends ask what skincare I'm using, because they say that my skin glows. I'm also so pleased to be able to brush on eyeshadow without my loose skin causing it to skip on my lids. Dr. Kim's staff was attentive, professional and thorough. Highly recommend.

Lower Facelift - Neck and lower lid blepharoplasty - I used to joke and say I was starting a facelift fund when I was younger. Then I looked in the mirror at 55-years-old and wished I had created that fund. I started the procedure with a consultation and Dr. Kim was amazing and I decided to go ahead with the procedures and I have no regrets! I plan to do more work soon. I had a lower face and neck lift with some lip enhancement and lower lid blepharoplasty.

About Us
How much does eyelid surgery cost?

Eyelid surgery costs can vary based on whether you're getting a lower eyelid lift, upper, or both. When your surgical plan has been decided in your initial consultation, Dr. Kim can talk to you about estimated costs. For natural-looking results that last a long time, it is better to concentrate on selecting a skilled Plastic Surgeon whom you are comfortable with, like Dr. Kim, rather than looking for the cheapest place. To help you afford a great eyelid lift, Natural Face Clinic accepts many payment methods, including low-interest financing.

Can I use insurance to pay for my eyelid surgery?

If hanging skin is limiting your sight, your insurance might cover some of your eyelid lift. Please talk to Dr. Kim in your consultation if you might be using your insurance. Someone at Natural Face Clinic can help you get the needed information and paperwork to your insurance company to process your claim. Generally, you will need a letter from an ophthalmologist or optometrist stating that blepharoplasty will restore your vision.

Will an eyelid lift fix wrinkles and Crow's feet?

Crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles might be better treated with a brow lift or facelift as the results of the blepharoplasty are confined to the eyelids only. Blepharoplasty can also be performed with a nonsurgical procedure like BOTOX, which can smooth wrinkles around the eyes and on the forehead. An injectable filler can help to add volume for a softer, smoother appearance. During your consultation, Dr. Kim will create your personal treatment plan based on your goals.
